Installation Guide

Much effort goes into the preparation of the “Installation Instructions” enclosed with your fan. Please follow these instructions, or MAKE SURE your installer reads, understands, and follows these instructions. Compliments of Wilcorp ceiling fans!

Fact: Many of the calls for assistance are a direct result of the installer not reading and following the instructions.

1. Before installing your fan, make sure the electrical box is secured to a structural member (joist) or other support capable of carrying weight of the fan purchased. If the support is not there, you may need to install a “fan brace”.

2. If you are installing more than one fan, please keep the fan blades in sets as each set is pre-balanced.
3. If you have not purchased a fan control, use your on/off switch on the wall to turn the fan “on”. Then, use the fan’s pull chain to control the speeds, and “off”.

4. NEVER use a light dimmer to control a fan motor. The dimmer will make your fan “noisy” or it may burn out the motor. If you do wish to control the fan speed from a wall switch, Wilcorp can supply you with a 3- or 4-speed fan control.

5. All screws that hold the blades to the blade brackets, and the brackets to the motor housing must be tight.

6. Rubber grommets for fan blades must be used to attach the brackets to the blades. Ceiling plate rubber grommets are included with all fans and must be used when mounting the ceiling plate to the ceiling, to ensure the canopy fits properly.

7. Loose wires will make the fan noisy, or cause the motor speed to fluctuate. Make sure all these connections are tight.

8. The safety cable must be installed onto a solid structural member i.e. joist. Not only will this cable prevent the fan from falling, it can also be used to hold the fan while making wire connections.

9. If you are attaching a downrod to your fan, make sure all threaded connections are tight. Note: some fans use a threaded downrod, others use “set screws”.

10. Use the enclosed balancing kit if the fan begins to wobble.

11. Run your fan counter clockwise in summer, clockwise in winter to bring stratified ceiling heat back to the floor.
